Two big football projects I am Thankful for this year!
I am excited to share details of two very-long in the works projects I worked on as archival producer:
First, The Dynasty, a 10-episode documentary series premiering February 16, 2024 about the incredible New England Patriots run of the 2000s and 2010s under owner Robert Kraft, coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady. It was so much fun team up with much of the same crew I worked on TIGER with a few years back, including our director Matthew Hamachek. Check out the teaser here, full trailer to come soon:
Secondly, the next installment in ESPN’s storied 30 for 30 series, “The Great Heisman Race of 1997.” I had the joy of working again with director Gentry Kirby and editor Michael Berndt, on this hourlong, 100% archival retelling of one of the most exciting and controversial Heisman Trophy stories of its existence. The show will premiere immediately following this year’s Heisman Ceremony on ESPN, the evening of December 9th.
Thanks and stay tuned! There are a few more projects I will be sharing details on in the upcoming weeks. Until then, Happy Thanksgiving!
Underrated (…but not anymore)
Though we got to premiere at Sundance earlier this year, I am excited to now officially share the trailer for the upcoming feature length documentary, “Stephen Curry: Underrated” about the future first-ballot hall of fame NBA star. It was a blast working on this project with an incredibly talented and dedicated team, via A24, and now premiering on Apple TV+ in a few short weeks. Check out the trailer here:
Boom! Boom! – and Mr. October
From Academy Award winners Alex Gibney and John Battsek, be sure to check out the two part documentary series on Apple TV, “Boom! Boom! The World vs Boris Becker” about the incredible rises and falls of tennis legend Boris Becker. This project was two years in the making and it was a blast to work with Jigsaw Productions again after working with them on “Tiger.”
Also premiering today on Amazon, check out “Reggie” about baseball Hall of Fame legend Reggie Jackson. From Delirio Films, who I had the pleasure of working with on “They Call Me Magic”
STEPH HEADS TO SUNDANCE!
I am thrilled to share that the recently wrapped feature length documentary, “Stephen Curry: Underrated,” will be having a special premiere screening at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival on January 23rd. The film is directed by Peter Nicks, via Proximity Media and A24. This project was a blast to work on and will soon have its streaming premiere on Apple+.
Boris Heads To Berlin!
…but before the holidays hit, I am thrilled to share that the (currently untitled) Boris Becker documentary project I have worked on for the past 18 months has been accepted for a special premiere screening at the 2023 Berlin Film Festival. The two-part series will then have a full premiere on the Apple+ streaming service. The project comes from Oscar winning filmmakers Alex Gibney and John Battsek.
Wrapping up another year
For the third year, I was lucky to team up again with Uninterrupted on their 6-part docu-follow series “Top Class.” Season three recently dropped on Amazon’s Freevee (fka IMDBTV) and the trailer is here below.
I also want to express my thanks to HBO for having me on the entire season of “Back on the Record with Bob Costas,” where I had the opportunity to reconnect and work with a number of my former colleagues from my old HBO days.
In the meantime, I am thrilled to share that I am wrapping up projects with A24/Proximity Media, and Jigsaw Productions/Ventureland, which will be having exciting news to share regarding their premieres shortly after the new year. Until then, stay safe, stay wll.
Recent and Upcoming!
February marked the premiere of the 10-episode series “The Tournament,” a massive 3-year long undertaking to tell the definitive history of the ACC’s Men’s Basketball Tournament. The project, another collaboration with Hock Films, was a blast to work on and took me deeper into North Carolina basketball than I ever could’ve imagine. Check out the trailer below and watching re-airs on the ACC Network or streaming on the ESPN+ service. You can also read this story from the North Carolina State University Library about the research conducted in their unparalleled basketball film collection here.
Next up will be “SHARK” an ESPN 30 for 30 documentary on legendary golfer Greg Norman, with a detailed look at his life, career, and unprecedented collapse at the 1996 Masters Tournament. I had a great time working with three of my former HBO Sports colleagues, Jason Hehir and Thomas Odelfelt as co-directors, and producer Matt Chase. Check out the trailer and tune in this Tuesday night!
Lastly, I had the privilege to work on “They Call Me Magic,” the 4-part documentary on the life and career of NBA icon Magic Johnson. This series premieres on Apple+ April 22nd. Tune in and enjoy!
